The wall is interrupted by several gates, each with its own character and history. Norderport, the majestic Northern Gate, with its twin towers, was once the main access point for travelers and goods from the north. It is a powerful reminder of Visby's past as a fortified Hanseatic city. Dalmansporten, one of the smaller but equally important gates, offers a glimpse into the daily lives of medieval residents. This gate, named after a local family, showcases the intricate layers of Visby's defenses. On the east side, we find Österport, the East Gate. Although the core of the gate is ancient, its facade tells a story of changing tastes and eras, now standing as a beautiful blend of medieval strength and later artistic embellishments. It was once a vital access point for trade from the east.
