What if you didn't tick Warsaw off a list, but unravelled it step by step? This treasure hunt turns the Polish capital into a game: you walk from place to place, read the story on the spot and solve puzzles along the way. Warsaw — a city rebuilt brick by brick after the war — reveals its richest side this way.
Playing in a rebuilt city
You open the treasure hunt right in your browser: no app download, no account. The route leads you past eight stops, and each place comes with a story and a puzzle whose answer you find in the surroundings themselves. That way you look more closely — at a brick gate, a royal façade or the details of a square that once lay in ruins.
Which places you'll pass
Along the way you'll come to the Barbican, the last great gate of old Warsaw, Sigismund's Column on Castle Square and the rebuilt Royal Castle. The Museum of Warsaw, housed in a row of historic townhouses, is part of it too. Two stops ask for a different tone: the POLIN Museum, on the ground of the former ghetto, and the Warsaw Uprising Monument invite not play but a pause and remembrance. Which puzzle belongs to which place we won't reveal — that's the game.
Good to know
The route is about 3.5 kilometres and takes roughly one and a half to two hours without stops. You walk at your own pace and all you need is a phone.
Who it's for
A Warsaw treasure hunt works for friends, for couples and for families with slightly older children who can handle the serious side of the city.
The Warsaw walk is free to play. Start the treasure hunt in the CityWalkGems app and discover how much more Warsaw shows when you have to look for it.
