Twelve stops, about four kilometres, and a puzzle at every stop: that is the Ptuj walk in a nutshell. For children it means "another old building" suddenly becomes a mission — and that is what makes Ptuj with kids the difference between tagging along and joining in.
Why this works for children
Every stop comes with a short story and a puzzle whose answer is found on the spot. Kids search, count and compare instead of listening to a guide. The route plays in the browser on your phone, so there is nothing to install and you can start straight away.
What children see along the way
The City Tower has watched over the centre since the 16th century, its clock faces worth a long stare. The Galerija mesta Ptuj, set in a former monastery, hangs colourful art of today; the Regional Museum Ptuj Ormož parades Roman treasures and medieval splendour. In the Poetovio Archaeological Park you walk among the remains of a real Roman city, with tales of gladiators and emperors. And at the statue of Rudolf Maister, children meet a general who was also a poet.
Honest about the distance
Four kilometres is a proper walk for small legs, especially with the climb up the castle hill. Without breaks you will be out for one and a half to two hours, so plan rest stops with young children. There is no time pressure — pausing for an ice cream and carrying on later is always allowed.
Good to know
The walk is free to play, one phone per family is enough, and you set the pace. A day out in Ptuj with kids stops being a hand-in-hand trudge and becomes a shared mission through a town full of stories.
