One day is enough to get a taste of Sydney — from the historic heart to the green gardens and the world-famous harbour. This route strings the highlights together into a logical day on foot, and the tour is free to play.

Morning: the historic heart

Start high at the Sydney Tower Eye, with a panorama that reaches the Blue Mountains on a clear day. Descend to Hyde Park and the Archibald Memorial Fountain, pass the Georgian Hyde Park Barracks — once a dormitory for convicts — and round off the morning at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

Lunch

Around the Royal Botanic Garden and the city centre you'll find plenty of spots to settle in for a while. Take your time: the afternoon brings the gardens and the harbour.

Afternoon: gardens and the harbour

Walk through the Royal Botanic Garden, with views over the water, then head via the Museum of Sydney to the historic Customs House. Finish by the quay: the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia and BridgeClimb Sydney, with the harbour and its bridges within reach.

Practical

The route is about 3.6 kilometres and the walk itself takes roughly 1.5 to 2 hours; with museum visits and lunch it easily fills a day. All you need is a phone, and you start at the Sydney Tower Eye.

That's how one day in Sydney becomes a complete experience. Play the free walk in the CityWalkGems app and let it guide you from stop to stop.
