Discovering a city with children works best when there's something to do. In Sydney you turn the walk into a game: the kids look for the clues, and the city — with its tower, harbour and green parks — keeps their attention all by itself.
Why a treasure hunt works for kids
You open the walk in your browser, with no download or account. Every stop comes with a puzzle whose answer is hidden in the surroundings. Children search, look and discover along with you instead of trudging behind — exactly what keeps a city walk fun.
What the little ones see along the way
A few stops are child-friendly gems. The Sydney Tower Eye lifts you high above the city, with a view that reaches the Blue Mountains on a clear day. The Royal Botanic Garden has all the room to run, with the harbour in the background, and around the Archibald Memorial Fountain in Hyde Park the kids can let off steam in the greenery.
Honest about the distance
The full route is about 3.6 kilometres across nine stops. Fine for older children; with little ones you can take it slowly — there's one longer stretch of over 800 metres between two stops, so plan a break there. You walk at your own pace and can always stop at a park.
Practical
All you need is a phone; count on roughly 1.5 to 2 hours, longer if you pause often. You start at the Sydney Tower Eye. The museums along the route charge entry; the parks are free to enter.
The Sydney walk is free to play. Open it in the CityWalkGems app and turn a day in Sydney into a real family outing.
